If you’re interested in pursuing your GED, you should know more about the eligibility requirements. Before you enroll in prep classes here at Broward Community Schools, this is what you need to know about Florida’s rules.

Who Can Pursue a GED?

In the state of Florida, you have to meet a handful of criteria to take the GED test. You need to be at least18 years old, and you can’t have a high school diploma of your own. You also should not be currently enrolled in any high school.

There are some situations in which a 16- or 17-year-old can apply to take the test for their GED, even if they are currently in high school. There has to be a set of “extraordinary” circumstances, and such circumstances are set by the school district in which that teenager attends school.

If they meet the criteria, they can contact their school district representative and request an underage waiver.

Taking GED Classes

If you are 16 or 17 years old, taking GED classes might actually be mandatory. Again, it all depends on the rules of your school district. If you are 18 years of age or older there is no requirement to take a class. However, we really recommend it.

Our GED prep classes can help you brush up on the basics and go into your exam prepared. This is an important test, so we recommend taking it seriously. Getting your GED could allow you to move on to bigger and better things, like more adult education classes and a better job.
