Do you struggle with reading? It’s not uncommon for adults to have made it through school without learning all the skills they need.
Who is Impacted?
While learning to read may seem like a daunting task, you are certainly not alone. According to the International Literacy Association, there are 781 million people worldwide who can not read or write. That accounts for almost 12 percent of the global population.
Why is it Important?
Reading illiteracy can have a major impact on your life. It can certainly impact your career as well as your chances for success. Adults without low literacy skills can find themselves living in poverty and even face health problems and social/emotional distress.
What Can You Do?
By enrolling in our adult reading programs at Broward Community Schools, you can build your reading comprehension in a small and supportive environment. Learning with other adults is certainly encouraging as you build on your skills together. Enrolling in a class also helps keep you accountable as you work towards your goal.
What Does the Class Entail?
Our adult reading program is best for adults who have difficulty reading or understanding what they read. Students must be able to speak and understand English. Attendance is mandatory for our students, as that will be essential in getting the necessary education. Our classes are small in size to ensure you get the specialized instruction you need.
What if English is My Second Language?
We have plenty of programs that also cater to students who have learned English as their second language. Our ESOL courses are designed to help you communicate fluently in English by improving your English reading, writing, and speaking skills. The classes are available in a variety of other languages.
