GED®, or General Educational Development®, is the process of earning the equivalent of your high school diploma. At Broward Community Schools, we provide the resources to help you prep, study, and earn your GED.

What Is the GED?

The GED is made up of four tests, which are designed to measure your proficiency in standard high school subjects for anyone 16 or older not enrolled in high school. These tests cover reasoning through language, mathematical reasoning, science, and social studies. To receive an equivalency diploma, you must receive an overall score that is 60% or higher than the scores of graduating high school seniors. When you pass the set of tests, it demonstrates that you have met high school-level academic skills, earning you a high school equivalency diploma.

How Do I Take the GED?

Broward Community Schools provides comprehensive GED classes with in-person individualized instruction in preparation for the GED exam at our Fort Lauderdale community schools. A great thing about this program is that it’s designed around you—you can take as little or as much time as you need, as it is an open-entry and open-exit program. If you are unable to fit in-person classes into your schedule, we offer affordable online classes for our GED test series, which are also instructor-led from an expert Broward educator.

The series follows a syllabus that outlines exactly what each area will cover. During the process, you will know how, when, and why to use each concept you learn. The areas of learning are divided into bite-size sections to focus on only certain concepts related to language arts, math, science, and social studies. For example, language arts will be separated into reading, editing, and writing. In each lesson, you will get to apply your knowledge to practice questions similar to those used during your official exam. There will also be an area dedicated to testing tips. Once you are done with this course, you will be able to apply the skills you have learned to take the GED with confidence.
